Buy Neoregelia

Neoregelia is a genus of plants, which, together with Tillandsia, belongs to the Bromeliaceae family, originally from tropical America, comprising 133 described species of Neoregelia, of which only 115 species are accepted.

What do Neoregelias look like?
Neoregelias have a depression in their centre where they collect water, from which the inflorescence also arises. The leaves of all Neoregelias have broad, shiny, elongated leaves.

The main characteristic of this genus is that its centre has a rectangular shape which helps it to collect the water it needs for its survival.

Care of Neoregelia

Neoregelia is a type of air plant that requires a lot of light and even appreciates several hours of direct light as long as it avoids the central hours of the day, which are usually the hours when the sun is the hottest.

Special care should be taken with Neoregelia . The top of the soil should be allowed to dry out between watering. Always keep some water in the central reservoirs that the Neoregelia creates between the leaves.

Neoregelias need very little fertiliser just like Tillandsia.

The plants absorb water and nutrients in the centre. Therefore, fertiliser should also be applied in the centre of the plant and in the axils that store water.

Characteristics of Neoregelia

The scientific name of this genus is Neoregelia.

Neoregelia is a plant native to the tropical rainforests of South America, especially Brazil.

Neoregelia needs very bright light, but direct sunlight should be avoided. Therefore, Neoregelia should not be grown during the hottest and brightest hours of the day.

The average temperature of the Neoregelia is 22-25 °C, and the minimum temperature of the Neoregelia is 3-5 °C. Neoregelia should be watered moderately.

When should I water my Neoregelia?

In the same way as with the fertiliser, to water our Neoregelia we must differentiate between the season we are in, that is, whether we are in winter or in summer.

During the summer months, our Neoregelia should be watered sparingly, keeping the central cup of the rosette always full of water, which should be changed once a month. It is recommended to use non-calcareous water for watering, i.e. soft water.

On the other hand, water less frequently during the winter months, just to keep your Neoregelia moist.

Finally, we recommend that you do not water your Neoregelia with tap water, or if you cannot water it with any other type of water, first boil the water with drops of vinegar before using it.
